Recertification by RU Credits

Recertification by RU credits is a simple process of obtaining a minimum of 18 recertification units (RUs) within your three-year certification period. You may accumulate the 18 RU credits from professional activities that either increase your knowledge of the Body of Knowledge (BOK) or is job enhancing. To receive the employment RU credits, at least one area of your job duties, responsibilities, and/or functions must fall in at least one area of your certification(s) Body of Knowledge (BOK). Just remember that all activities may be started before your three-year recertification period, but must be completed by the expiration date.

RU credits can be earned in the following areas:

Author or co-author of a published book
Quality Press reviewer
U.S. Standards Group on QEDS

Refresher courses, for initial certification exams may not be counted towards that recertification period, but may be applied towards another recertification if it lies within that certification BOK or is job enhancing.

You may also choose to recertify by exam every three years in lieu of recertifying by RU credits.

Please note that the CQT, CMI, & CQIA do not require recertification. The HACCP and Biomedical add-on certifications to the CQA will automatically be recertified each time your CQA is recertified. Otherwise, your CQA-HACCP and/or Biomedical add-on will be decertified, along with your CQA, if your CQA is not maintained; either by journal or exam.

The new Six Sigma Black Belt (SSBB) and Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) certifications will follow the same recertification requirements as the CQA, CQE, Certified Quality Manager, CRE, and CSQE.
